New Director to drive fundraising and communications forward |

Paul Gauntlett has been appointed to a new post at the Peace Hospice as Director of Fundraising and Communications. After many years as a management training consultant and a merchandise executive in industry, Paul has spent the past 20 years in the voluntary sector working at director level for several national charities including NSPCC, Samaritans and most recently The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Paul’s roles have always included the fundraising, communications and marketing mix, and he brings to the Hospice extensive strategic experience developed mainly in health and social care charities.
The Peace Hospice, based in Watford, cares for people living with a life limiting or terminal illness and supports their families from across South West Hertfordshire. It provides inpatient care, day care, an outpatient service, a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support.
The Hospice needs to raise £3 million of charitable income this year in order to run and develop its services. All the care that the Hospice provides to its patients and their families is free.
Speaking about the role, Paul said ‘I feel most fulfilled when I am working for charities that support people who are vulnerable. Working for a Hospice clearly meets that description. The Peace Hospice demonstrated in so many ways the kind of values which also drive me, and that synergy is important. When I meet the staff and volunteers at the Peace, I knew I wanted to be part of a team that is so passionate about caring for people coping with a life limiting or terminal illness and supporting their families’.
I could not have joined the Peace Hospice at a worse economic time, but working with colleagues, I aim to maintain and develop the wonderful support the Hospice already receives from its donors and supporters.
My main focus will to be to ensure that our funding strategy is sustainable so that we can deliver the very best possible services for the best value.
In order to succeed we need to be absolutely clear about how we communicate and justify our need for support. Everyone in South West Herts should feel that they could, if necessary, benefit from the services we offer’.
