Recession hits charity shops |

The effects of the recession have started to take their toll on the Peace Hospice. The charity announced this week that it has seen a sharp decline in the amount of donated furniture to its shops.
The Peace Hospice has 7 local shops located close to Watford town centre, South Oxhey, Bushey, Tudor, Garston, Radlett and Chorleywood all selling a wide range of new and good quality used products including furniture, clothes and bric-a-brac.
A new Hospice shop in Borehamwood will also be opening to the public later this month.
The Hospice’s Retail Director Steve Rose said ‘As excited as I am to now have two furniture superstores, in South Oxhey and Borehamwood, I have to admit to some serious concerns over furniture donations.
Over the past month we have seen a reduction of donations into our South Oxhey shop, at just the time we need double as much!
I would like to make an appeal to the public to help us and we have van drivers available who will collect furniture at a convenient time for customers’.
The Hospice’s Director of Fundraising and Communications, Paul Gauntlett said ‘Our shops are predominantly run by volunteers and all the profit that we make at our shops goes towards the running of the Hospice.
Our shops play a vital role in ensuring that the Hospice can continue to provide free care for people who need us across South West Hertfordshire. I hope that people in the community will get behind us at this difficult time’.
The Peace Hospice, based in Watford, cares for people living with a life limiting or terminal illness and supports their families from across South West Hertfordshire.
We provide inpatient care, day care, an outpatient service, a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support.
For anyone wishing to donate furniture to the Hospice, please contact our South Oxhey shop on 0208 420 1525 or our Borehamwood shop on 0208 953 1985.
