New rapid response service launched |

The Hospice at Home team has introduced a new service that will improve the care that it gives to its patients. The Hospice introduced a new 1 hour rapid response service just a few weeks ago, aimed at providing support to patients within an hour of them contacting the Hospice at Home team.
The Hospice at Home’s Team Leader, Kathy Constantin said ‘Only a few years ago we started out by visiting just 2 or 3 surgeries in Watford. We’ve made huge steps forward as we now provide hospice at home support to patients across South West Hertfordshire – a major achievement for a small team.
Fortunately we now have a bigger team in place, although we still have a few posts to fill, and this has enabled us to give patients more of our time and to increase the amount of respite care for carers’.
‘No day is ever the same for the team. We have to be incredibly flexible due to the nature of the job. A phone call can dramatically change our day and we aim to respond quickly to our patients’ needs. Patients and carers can often get quite frightened and sometimes people just need the reassurance of knowing that we are there for them’.
Kathy told Hospice Herald ‘Our aim is to be with the patient within one hour of the time that they first contact us. We hope that this will bring extra reassurance to both our patients and their carers. I am pleased that we have been able to increase our care provision in the community as we look to provide our patients with all the support that they need at an important time in their lives’.
