Firewalkers blaze across burning coals for Hospice |

Temperatures in excess of 1200oF, failed to prevent 30 local supporters of the Peace Hospice completing a firewalk in aid of the charity on Thursday raising over £7,000.
The fierce 20 foot track of hot burning coals was the ultimate test of mind over matter as brave firewalkers gathered at the Watermill Hotel in Bourne End.
The Hospice’s event organiser, Maggie Grand was full of praise for the walkers ‘It was a fantastic evening and a great atmosphere.
There were a lot of nervous people beforehand who simply didn’t know what to expect. We were delighted that they all managed to complete the walk and raise money for us as the Hospice needs to raise £3.5 million this financial year in order to run and develop its services’.
The event was jointly organised with the Hospice of St Francis and will help to raise vital funds for the Peace Hospice.
One of the walkers, Corinna Winch who works at the Hospice in the finance team said ‘I looked at the fire and it was quite scary waiting for my turn, but when my turn did come around I was so charged and focused. My body felt the heat but I was really determined. It was complete elation when I finished’!
The Peace Hospice is planning to continue running its range of adrenalin events next year including a skydive, abseil and repeat of the firewalk.
