Generous staff at Beaverbooks Jewellers in the Harlequin recently presented a cheque for £1,100 to the Hospice.
Each of the 11 members of staff at the jewellers were given £100 to be donated to a charity of their choice, and the store decision was to nominate The Peace Hospice.
Louise Sinclair and Louise Compton visited the Hospice to bring the cheque and to find out more about the Hospice. Louise said " The Hospice is so different from what I imagined. There is a lovely happy atmosphere and the facilities are wonderful. We were shocked to hear that only 25% comes from government and hope our £1,100 goes some way to helping with the fundraising".
The Peace Hospice, based in Watford, cares for people living with a terminal illness and their families from across South West Hertfordshire. It provides inpatient care, day care, an outpatient service, a hospice at home service as well as bereaveement support.
The Hospice plans to spend £3.5million this year in both running and developing it's services. It only recieves 25% of this amount from the Health Service with the remaining 75% needing to come from voluntary contributions. All the care provided to patients and their families is free.
Beaverbrooks are a family company, based in the Harlequin, who give 20% of their post tax profits to charity and were recognised as the third best company to work for by the Sunday Times in 2008. They match fund raising activities by staff and also encourage staff to volunteer.
