BRE show their support |

 There was a late Christmas present for The Peace Hospice when they received a fantastic £5,000 donation from Watford based, BRE whilst visiting one of their display houses at the site in Garston.
BRE describe themselves as a world leading research, consultancy, training, testing and certification organisation who deliver sustainability and innovation across the built environment and beyond. The money was donated in lieu of sending out cards to clients and opting for electronic cards instead. This is the second time that they have made this kind of donation to the Hospice.Through getting to know the people at BRE The Peace Hospice has also looked at its own building and picked up tips on keeping the building cool in summer and improving air flow for patients and staff.
Jonathan Carmichael accepted the cheque from Chief Executive Martin Wyatt on the roof of one of the display houses at the Bucknalls Lane site. The 2007 “Future Design Award” winning house as voted by Mail on Sunday readers is designed to meet the 2016 regulations for new builds which will require them to generates their own energy, in this case with photovoltaic cells.
The Hospice’s Corporate Development Manager, Maggie Grand said ‘We are delighted that BRE have again shown their kind support towards the Hospice. The Peace Hospice, based in Watford, cares for people living with a terminal illness and their families from across South West Hertfordshire. We provide inpatient care, day care, an outpatient service, a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support. We plan to spend £3.5 million this year in both running and developing our services. We receive around, just 20% of this amount from the Health Service with the remaining 80% needing to come from voluntary contributions. All the care we provide to our patients and their families is free’.
