With just over 2 months to go, the Starlight Walk event organisers have unveiled its latest recruit. Former Wham and Pepsi and Shirlie singer, Shirlie Kemp visited The Peace Hospice on Friday along with celebrity husband and actor Martin Kemp to sign up for the forthcoming Starlight Walk event. Shirlie along with over 1,000 other women will walk the 13 mile course at midnight on Saturday 14th June. On making her first trip to the Hospice, Shirlie Kemp said ‘This place is amazing! I wish that I had this kind of facility available when my mother died outside the area just a few months ago’. ‘I’m really happy to be here today and I’m really pleased that I can support the Hospice by taking part in this event. I just hope that many more women will sign up and support the Starlight Walk’. The event was also marked with the unveiling of the official Starlight Walk t-shirts that all walkers will be wearing on the night. Last year saw the launch of the first ever Starlight Walk, which raised over £180,000 for the Hospice. The events main sponsor is Herts Mercury 96 6. Speaking about The Peace Hospice Martin Kemp said ‘You always expect a Hospice to be there and its easy to take it for granted. It’s not until you need the service that you realise what goes into the whole provision of a Hospice. It costs over £3 million every year to run The Peace Hospice and an event like the Starlight Walk is so important in helping to raise funds. Even if someone manages to raise a fiver for this event, it will make a difference’.
