| The Peace Hospice held a special reception event on Thursday, to thank Watford Football Club for its 13 year support. The event was attended by representatives of the Hospice, the media and football club including club chairman Graham Simpson and manager Aidy Boothroyd. The partnership started in 1995, when manager Graham Taylor was at the helm, where he became a regular visitor in the inpatient unit. The football club have since supported the Hospice in numerous ways including the sponsoring of a room, carrying out a team firewalk in 2007 and supporting the Hospice at a sporting dinner event and more recently with Aidy Boothroyd fronting a Christmas appeal. To mark the event, a plaque was presented by the Hospice’s Chair of Trustees Stuart Nagler to Watford Chairman Graham Simpson at the club in thanks of the support. The Hospice’s Director of Fundraising, Jim Swindells said ‘We are extremely grateful to the football club for their support over the years. They have not only helped us to raise funds for numerous campaigns, but their managers and players have frequently given up their time visiting patients and staff. Their reputation as a ‘community club’ is one that is well deserved’. The Peace Hospice, based in Watford, cares for terminally ill patients and their families from South West Hertfordshire. We provide inpatient care, day care, outpatient service and a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support. It costs £3.1m a year to provide these services and over 75% of this is supported through charitable donations. All the care it provides to its patients is free. |
