The Peace Hospice is urging local residents to put fear to one side and carry out a sponsored abseil in aid of the Hospice. For those people that do take up the challenge, there will be a 90 foot drop down the side of the Harlequin to look forward to. The Hospice is looking for 100 volunteers to get involved in the fundraiser which takes place on Sunday 20th April.
Community Fundraising Manager Gill Crowson said "This event will certainly get the heart rate going and is not for the faint hearted. We're looking for 100 people to take up the challenge. When we've held previous abseil events, there has been a great buzz amongst participants. It's a great way for local people to make a positive difference in the community, while hopefully, also having fun"!
The Peace Hospice Communications Manager Jon Michael said "This is the first of a series of adrenalin based events that the Hospice will be holding this year. We are keen to try and attract new fundraising supporters to the Hospice of all ages and have set out a programme of events that will hopefully appeal to everyone. A skydive event and firewalk are amongst some of the other exciting challenges that we have lined up for our supporters during the year".
The Peace Hospice, based in Watford, cares for terminally ill patients and their families from South West Hertfordshire. It provides inpatient care, day care, outpatient service and a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support. It costs £3.1m a year to provide these services and over 75% of this is supported through charitable donations. All the care it provides to patients is free.
