Generous staff at Skanska Balfour Beatty surprised the Peace Hospice this week with a generous donation.

Three members of the M25 Widening team presented the Hospice with the proceeds from their recent staff fundraising event totalling £7,800.

The donation is a welcome boost to the Hospice which recently announced cuts to some of its services following a continual shortfall in charitable income.  The contribution from this event is the latest activity the M25 Widening team has undertaken to support the Peace Hospice.

Hospice Corporate Development Manager Maggie Grand said ‘Not only did the Twinkle Toes team raise £1044 by taking part in our Starlight Walk, they also donated a 32” TV to us for our new facilities and now this wonderful donation.  It is such a fantastic amount of money to have raised and I know that they are as pleased as I am at how well the event went. It couldn’t have come at a better time! They also raised a further £500 by auctioning Take That concert tickets earlier in the year so they are brilliant supporters of ours.’

Jerry Clarke, Skanska Balfour Beatty Project Director, said: ‘We are very pleased to support the invaluable work the Hospice does in this community. We look forward to continuing this support for the duration of the M25 Widening project, with further activities and events.’

The Peace Hospice, based in Watford, cares for people living with a life limiting or terminal illness and supports their families from across South West Hertfordshire.

It provides inpatient care, day care, an outpatient service, a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support.

The Hospice needs to raise £3 million of charitable income this year in order to run and develop its services. All the care that the Hospice provides to its patients and their families is free.
