Merciless thieves trash Hospice shop |

Thieves caused misery to staff and volunteers at the Peace Hospice’s Watford shop last weekend after a double break-in which left the shop facing over £2,000 in bills.
The Watford Shop plays an important role in raising vital funds for the Hospice, helping to support patients and their families who are living with a life limiting or terminal illness from Watford and across South West Hertfordshire.
Thieves not only trashed the shop, causing it to lose valuable trading days, but the thieves also left with jewellery and a small amount of cash.
The Hospice’s Director of Fundraising and Communications, Paul Gauntlett said ‘Our shops play a vital role in helping us to raise the £3 million of charitable income needed to run the Hospice. We’re facing extremely challenging times, and are experiencing the full bite associated with the recession. This additional set-back hasn’t helped us one bit. It’s extremely disappointing to get hit in this way when we are helping more patients and their families than ever before’.
Shop Manager Julie Bines said ‘My team of volunteers were distraught when we arrived at the shop on Monday. We all put such a lot of effort into raising as much as we can for patients and their families and this feels like a real kick in the teeth. I would like to appeal to the public to help us by giving us any of their new or used unwanted gifts – whether that’s clothes, house goods toys or unwanted jewellery. We need their support more than ever’.
