 Bike owners are being encouraged to enjoy the scenery and fresh air in September as part of the Peace Hospice’s Pedal for Peace cycle event. Cyclists can choose from a 10, 20 or 30 mile route that starts and ends in Cassiobury Park, Watford on Sunday 6th September.
Event organiser Gill Crowson said ‘This is the second year that we’ve held the event and there was a great atmosphere amongst the cyclists last year despite the monsoon.
It’s a great event that the family can take part in together and is an event that will hopefully attract both the serious and more leisurely cyclist. I hope that people will unite to raise important funds for the Hospice.’
The entry fee is £12.00 per person and all cyclists must be at least 14 years old to take part.
The Peace Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people from across South West Hertfordshire with a life limiting or terminal illness. Most patients have cancer but an increasing number of others have conditions such as end stage heart disease, respiratory and neurological disease. Care is holistic and we look after the whole person, and their family/carers, helping with emotional and spiritual issues as well as physical symptoms. The Hospice focuses on enabling patients to live their lives to the full and providing the best quality of life when a cure is not possible.
The Hospice provides inpatient care in a 12 bedded unit as well as day care and outpatient care. It also provide bereavement support to anyone from South West Hertfordshire who has been bereaved. The Hospice also runs a hospice at home service which takes hospice care to patients in their own homes and gives people the choice of staying at home to die.
The Hospice needs to raise £3 million of charitable income every year in order to run and develop its services. All the care that the Hospice provides to its patients and their families is free.
