"....an amazing talent" (Sir Neville Marriner)
"....his playing is truly beautiful" (Lord Yehudi Menuhin)
Bobby Chen has grown into one of the most respected artists of his generation. Acclaimed by the Guardian in London and the Straits Times in Singapore, and described by International Piano Magazine as "... an armour-clad player of complete technique, a thinking musician, a natural romantic. Young bloods come no better", Bobby Chen burst on to the scene in 1996 with a sensational season of concerts, which included a British tour with Yehudi Menuhin and a recital at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the South bank Prokoviev Festival.
Since then he has performed with conductors Matthias Bamert, Maximiliamo Valdes, Lan Shui, Sir Neville Marriner, Pierre-Andre Valade, and orchestras such as the Academy of St Martin-in-the Fields, London Sinfonietta, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has recorded two solo discs for Jacques Samuel Recordings, a duo disc with cellist Leonid Gorokhow for 'Cello Classics' and a piano trio disc for Illuminate Records. He has recently released an all-Prokoviev solo piano disc for SOMM recordings, and is looking forward to the release of a piano trio disc for Toccata Classics in 2010.
Recent highlights include solo recitals at Fazioli Hall in Italy, for the Southern Highlands International Piano Competition in Australia, Guildford International Music Festival, Worcester Three Choirs Festival, and participating in the Complete Beethoven Sonatas Cycle at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. He had made live recital broadcasts for Radio Television Hong Kong and Pianoforte Chicago (USA), and as a chamber musician, has performed at Conway Hall in London, Lidkoping Music Festival in Sweden and Musica Nova in Brazil.
Bobby has recently represented Malaysia in The Rising Stars Showcase Performance for the 27th Annual Federation of Asian Cultural Promotion (FACP) Conference 2009 and given a private recital to the Sultan of Selangor, Malaysia. |
